Ohh man... I can (still) see!

I already pulled out this Brian Regan reference a couple years ago, but I think it's time to pull it out again. Man I can see! The little eye infection episode I had in India prompted me to dart to the eyeglass shop immediately upon my return. Suddenly "instantly improve vision" shot to the top of my to-do list.

I haven't owned eyeglasses in 13 years. But today I picked up a new pair. I love 'em. They're a bit nerdy, but lightweight. So I've got that goin' for me. They're not quite oval, not quite rectangular. Little -- metal -- different. The world is still spinning a bit when I turn my head. It'll take a little getting used to the fact that the lenses are an inch from my eyes as opposed to on my eyes. But I think my peepers will thank me for that. All in all, I'm happy, and maybe I'll leave the contact lenses in the drawer for a while now. Mr. Four Eyes is back.

    Tufted tiki-mouse

If our squirrels weren't constantly dominating our poor backyard feeders, I'd be all over the Tiki Hut Bird Feeder for our fine feathered friends. All over it like, well... a squirrel on a birdfeeder.

    Nervous Music Podcast 004

Dispatched from India, I bring you the fourth installment of the Nervous Music Podcast. Last month, we focused on some unmistakably American music. This month, it's all about the globe-trotting. You'll hear songs from Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe. It's the Foreign Lands edition. We're breaking down barriers here, folks, one goofy reggae Serge Gainsbourg record at a time.

And I could've done without that

What's worse than battling severe jet lag while in India? Getting conjunctivitis of course! But what can be worse than that? Why, getting crapped on by a bird while leaving the hospital!

Yes, friends, it's been a tough couple days. The first few were fine. Meetings went well, and I got a lot accomplished. But since yesterday, life's been another story. As I type this, I'm inches from my screen peeking out of slits for eyes and listening to Hollywood Squares in my hotel room.

I guess this will finally be the push I need to buy a pair of eyeglasses. Luckily I packed a couple extra pairs of contact lenses. Let's hope I heal enough by Sunday morning to at least wear one to make it to the airport and back home again.

It's only Friday morning here, though. So that's still a couple days away. For now, I'm waiting patiently in my room for an omelette and some sweet lime juice. OK, that's about all the seeing I can take for now.

UPDATE: I know I've talked with some of you before about the relatively cheaper cost of just about everything here in India. Here's another prime example: Guess how much it cost for my hospital registration fee, the exam itself, plus two prescriptions for eyedrops. If you guessed $13.50 you'd be right.

    Just call me Caracticus Potts

So here I am, the Third Man, waving good-bye again. Off to India once more, this time for a week. The trip came out of the blue. But at least this will be the last one for a while. This I can be assured of. Aside from a weekend meeting at the end of April, I will be grounded for a few months, thankfully. All of this traveling has tuckered me out.

So what does this movie poster have to do with anything? Well, nothing really. It's just a really good film, with a tad too much zither music. But a good suspenseful Orson Welles film, and you should rent it.

    Oh the zither!
